Some Facts About the City


The city of Rostock, a historical city that was part of the Hanseatic League mercantile association, was founded in the 11th century by Polabian Slavs at the Warnow river and given a name of Roztoc (meaning “broadening of a river”).

It is the largest city in the north German state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and home to one of the oldest universities in the world, founded in 1419. – the University of Rostock. Separated into 21 boroughs of which the Warnemünde is located right at the coast of the Baltic Sea as the northernmost one.
